Inspiration Behind the Painting:

I live in Barrydale in the Klein Karoo and am inspired daily by the beautiful wildlife, birds and flora we have here.

This striking acrylic and mixed media painting on boxed canvas features two female Cape sparrows and one male Cape sparrow, quietly perched together on a branch.

I incorporated a luxurious gold foil in the backdrop sun to accentuate the birds and gleaming silver metal tape in the branches, adding a luminous and dimensional touch that draws the eye to the delicate beauty of the birds feathers. Behind them, a sky inspired by delftware unfolds in intricate blue and white patterns, evoking a sense of timeless elegance and serenity. Below, the ground, rendered in bold Zentangle patterns of grey, black, and white demonstrates both structure and creative whimsy.

The fusion of metallic accents, classic motifs, and contemporary patterning creates a piece that is both visually captivating and rich in texture, inviting viewers to explore every detail and the wonder of nature.
