BEAUTIFUL RED AND CLEAR ART GLASS
MURANO SOMMERSO SCULPTURAL ART GLASS BOWL - MID 20TH CENTURY
MURANO GLASS
The term ‘Murano’ defines glass produced on the island of Murano, near Venice, Italy.
The history of Murano Glass began in 1291, when concerns about the risk of fire to the mainly wooden buildings of Venice led to the many glass manufacturers there being ordered to move their premises to the small island of Murano. Murano was already a busy trade port at the time and its glass artists soon became renowned for their skill in glass design - and had a monopoly on glassware production for several centuries.
The Murano glass industry boomed during the 1950s and 60s, exporting a vast amount of glassware all over the world.

PLEASE NOTE
Glass from the mid-20th century is vintage glassware and age related signs of wear such as small fine surface scratches/marks should be expected. The items are hand-made, they may have imperfections such as bubbles, inclusions and lumps within the glass. Tool marks from where they have been shaped and worked in the manufacturing process can often be seen. As this indicates authenticity and forms an inherent part of the character of handmade glass, these are normally not considered as faults by collectors.
