An EXCELLENT example of a Early 20th Century Xhosa 'Inqawe' Transkei Men's Tobacco Pipe. This piece appears to be in a GOOD, USED state , with Pipe structure intact & minor usage. This traditional Xhosa Tobacco Pipe has been handcrafted from Acacia or Imnyamanzi wood.
The Inqawe used by Men differs in length from those used by Women; which tend to be significantly longer. The tradition of smoking Tobacco is associated with Tribal rituals & functions - the exhaled smoke creating a communicative conduit, strengthening and relationship with one's ancestors. Evidence of handling/ age-related wear is visible on surface.
