Victorian Baby Rattle - Whistle and Bells - Mother of Pearl Handle
Hallmarks on final images, tiny, hard to photograph and indistinct
This is a lovely little item from the Victorian period that was used as a teething aid; the high pitched whistle and bells were used to distract the baby from its teething pains. Overall in excellent condition. One bell is missing, and there is what looks like a type of enamel spill (possibly nail varnish or similar) visible in the 1st and 3rd images below. No attempt has been made to clean the item, which is offered here as found. There is a tiny hallmark stamp on the silver section where the mother of pearl handle is joined to the rattle.
