A 1924 Solid Silver and Enamel First Aid in Mining Red Cross Medal. The obverse states "THE SOUTH AFRICAN RED CROSS SOCIETY" with the hanger stating "FOR EFFICIENCY IN FIRST AID IN MINING". The reverse states "No. 277, EFFICIENCY MEDALLION FIRST AID IN MINING AWARDED TO W.MARAIS, 1924". It bears the silver hallmarks for Birmingham, 1923 with maker's stamp for Fattorini & Sons. The hanger reverse also bears the maker's stamp and states "STERLING". Approximately 9cm in length and weighs 21.6 grams.
