Sheffield Steel Products (S.S.P.) 1940 British Military Jack Knife
This pattern of Jack Knife/Clasp Knife was standard British Army issue from the late 1930's until the early 1950's. It features a marlinspike and can-opener, in addition to the blade. The grip 'scales' are made of Bexoid. This particular knife comes with a copper shackel which they stopped using from 1941/42 due to the importance of copper as a war material. All the shackles on their knives were steel thereafter. The blade is stamped with the British Military 'Broad Arrow", S.S.P. (Sheffield Steel Products) and the date 1940. Also interesting to note is that the end spring on one side extends past the bolster to be used as a crude screw driver.
CONDITION: The knife itself is in excellent condition but has obvious age related marks being over 70 years old. All components are intact and in good working condition. The spring mechanisms are still very strong with a solid click when locking in the open or closed position. With a little TLC, I am sure the blade/attachments will clean up very nicely.
