📝The 1962 South Africa 1 Cent coin is a fascinating piece of history. It was part of the first decimal coinage of South Africa, introduced in 1961. The coin is made of brass and features the portrait of Jan van Riebeeck, a Dutch colonial administrator and founder of Cape Town, on the obverse side2. The reverse side shows a covered wagon used by the Voortrekkers during the Great Trek2.

These coins were minted by the South African Mint and had a total mintage of approximately 21.9 million. They were in circulation for only a few years before being replaced by a smaller bronze version in 1965
