A pair of Art Nouveau Royal Staffordshire+Wilkinson cylinder vases 1907-1910 Ref. OR.52
Maker: Wilkinson, Royal Staffordshire Potteries
Date: 1907-1910
History: The company opened in 1881 and ceased trading in 1964. The famous Clarice Cliff artist joined the company in 1916 and developed the Art Deco style. However, it must be noted that artists like John Butler, F. Ridgway and L. Allen had already started to modernize the designs prior to Cliff.
Description: A pair of cylinder pottery vases in a Art Nouveau style depicting a silhouette of windmills in black against a metallic mustard coloured background coupled with a strong orange band at the top of the vase. This is quite an unusual design and I have not been able to trace it.
Condition: Good overall condition, slight loss of gilding to the rim and a fractional difference in size as well as slight difference in design at back. A white mark is found on one vase where the mustard colour did not take. Note the two back stamps, one in green and one in black, indicating different batches of manufacture, both showing the pattern number 7530
Dimensions: One vase stands 16 cm in height, the other 15.8 cm both with a top diameter of 8 cm.
