Shona carvers from Zimbabwe are some of the most talented carvers in the word and this caving shows the talent that they have. This Shona bust is from the town Bulawayo in Zimbabwe were Iron wood is commonly available. The bust are heavy and weigh 7.3 kg's and stand at 40 cm in height.
 
The black ironwood, is an African tree species in the olive family Oleaceae. It is widespread in sub-Saharan Africa: from the east in Somalia, Ethiopia and Sudan, south to the tip of South Africa. Iron wood is an extremely hard and heavy wood and is used mainly by the Shona carvers of Zimbabwe. Shona artisans in Zimbabwe use ironwood to carve sculptures, including busts, masks and animals. Ironwood is difficult to work with and heavy, making it a valuable material for art.
