Antique Pountney & Co and Grindley flow blue plates for 1 bid. This lot consists of:
Antique Pountney & Co Mandarin pattern flow blue soup plate - Bristol Pottery. This plate dates to c1900. The Chinoiserie Mandarin Pattern is destinctive of the time when English pottery makers wanted to emulate the far eastern patterns that were so popular of the day. It is flow blue, which resulted from adding lime to the kiln as the piece was being fired. The backstamp is in blue and has a triangle with "POUNTNEY & CO LTD BRISTOL Mandarin PATTERN" around the edge with crossed swords and "17" and "50" on either side. The plate is 26cm in diameter. It is in good condition for its age - has a little rim nibble.
Victorian W.H Grindley Florida pattern flow blue plate. I would date this plate to the 1890s. It is flow blue and adorned in Morning Glory flowers, and would originally had gold trim. It is backstamped "W.H Grindley Trade Mark, Florida, England". It is 24cm in diameter. The plate has a rim chip and gold trim has worn, but is still full of character.
