THIS FOOTSTOOL WITH AN X BASE HAS THE FORM OF A ROCKER. IT IS OLD AND MADE OF HARDWOOD. WITH THE REAL GREEN TANNED LEATHER UPHOLSTERY STILL IN GOOD CONDITION.
 
They were created in Victorian times for people (commonly kings and aristocrats) with gout to rest their entire leg and has hence being referred to as Gout Stools.
 
GOUT STOOLS:
This type of footstool with an X Base is commonly called a "gout" stool -- they were created in Victorian times for people with gout to rest their entire leg. Gout footstools were used to support the afflicted foot by resting the leg on the longer portion of the stool and the foot on the shorter portion.
