bobshop is satisfied with the Black Friday sales and expects a comparable performance during their current Cyber Monday week

(27 November 2017) The siege of both brick and mortar and online stores this 24 November testifies that South Africans have embraced Black Friday wholeheartedly.

South African online marketplace bobshop.co.za ran Black Friday sales for one whole week, from 20 until 27 November, but recorded the biggest spikes in traffic on Friday the 24th.

“That comes as no surprise”, says Bob Shop CEO Jaco Jonker. “With Bob Shop sellers offering more than twenty thousand of their highly sought products at discounts of 30, 50 or even 80 percent, it was logical that buyers would come rushing. We were ready for them”, he concludes.

The increase of the number of visitors was visible on all Bob Shop platforms: website, mobi site, as well as Android and iPhone shopping applications. “This year, shoppers were much more likely to use their mobile device than they were last year”, says Jonker, adding that, compared to Black Friday last year, the Bob Shop Android shopping app saw a 60 percent increase in visits.

The products that proved to be the most popular among the shoppers were smartphones, toys and household items. The most expensive Bob Shop Black Friday deal was an iPhone X 256GB with the price tag of R28,599. The deal with the biggest discount was a square Italian designed sofa suite, with a whopping 86 percent discount off the R39,999 retail price. And the most popular item was an investment piece, an uncirculated 1oz silver Krugerrand that had its price sliced from the retail R750 to the Black Friday R495.

“We are extremely satisfied with this year’s Black Friday sales on the site and expect a comparable performance during our Cyber Monday week, which opened today and will last until midnight on Sunday 3 December”, says Jaco Jonker and adds:

“Our sellers are offering a wide array of products, from portable braai stands and handbags to watches and duvet sets, as well as several big-ticket items, such as smart TV sets and washing machines, which are already attracting attention from the buyers.
