For Sale: Antique 1920s40s Maritime Pressure Lamp (Lincolnshire, UK) 55cm Tall

An exceptionally well-preserved piece of industrial maritime history, this original pressure lamp was manufactured between the 1920s and 1940s by The Great Grimsby Co. Ltd in Lincolnshire, UK. These lamps were designed for use in punishing environments like ship decks, where durable, high-lumen lighting was non-negotiable.

Specifications & Features:

  • Height: 55 cm

  • Authentic makers plate: Embossed and fully legible a rare and verifiable detail.

  • Materials & Construction:

    • Polished yellow copper/brass fuel tank both functional and elegant.

    • Thick, intact glass globe, weatherproof and impact-resistant.

    • Protective metal guard cage safeguarding the globe from knocks and falls.

    • White-painted upper housing with domed, vented top.

    • Original bail handle still present and fully functional allows for hanging or carrying.

  • Engineering Details:

    • Classic pressurised fuel system, including:

      • Control valve,

      • Mantle burner,

      • Pump mechanism (beneath the black knob at the base).

Historical Context & Style:

This style of lamp was common in marine, mining, and railway infrastructure valued for its rugged design and powerful light output. Today, it stands as both a collectible historical artefact and a striking decorative object, evoking the grit and ingenuity of early 20th-century British industry.

Condition: Very good, considering its age. Glass is intact, brass has been carefully polished, and the painted surfaces are relatively clean with some age-related abrasions. Some minor bumps and scratches. All major components including the bail handle are intact. I have not tested the lamp so I don't know if it's working. Please study the photographs carefully because they form part of the description.
