Chrysanthemum is an herbaceous flowering hardy annual. It is commonly grown as an ornamental for the yellow or bi-coloured yellow and white flowers.
It is also used as edible greens in Asian dishes.
The open flowers and unopened flower buds (pearls) can be used to make a beneficial herbal tea. The flowers can be used fresh or dried.
The flower petals are edible raw. Older leaves and flowers may be a little bitter.
The plant is very high in potassium.
Some people may be susceptible to a mild stomach upset or a skin reaction through ingestion or contact with the skin.
Chrysanthemum is used to treat chest pain, high blood pressure, type 2 diabetes, fever, cold, headache, dizziness and swelling.
In combination with other herbs, Chrysanthemum is also used to treat prostate cancer. It is also a popular summertime tea in China.
