Description: Frister & Rossmann Sewing Machine Dated 1914. Ref. MA/43
Maker: Frister and Rossmann, Berlin, Germany
Date: 1914
History: Frister and Rossmann was established in 1864 in Germany, and, until 1902, it was the largest sewing machine company. They were awarded medals at many international exhibitions, including Sydney, Crystal Palace, Amsterdam, London and Edinburgh. In 1925 the company was acquired by Gritzner who, later, merged with Kayser Company in 1931. They started exporting machines to an agent in England in 1870. W. Piersenne became to sole agent from 1889 to 1914 when they dropped the importation due to the First World War.
Description: The machine on offer is the TS 5-2 model, a transverse shuttle high arm, lockstitch machine, one of the very last sold by W. Piersenne, with the number 1492901 clearly shown on the front. A brass plaque on the machine reads Manufactured in Germany by Frister & Rossmann, trademark FR, Sole agent W. Piersenne 24/25 Fore Street, London EC. There are a number of attachments, including the shuttle, spare bobbin and lots of pieces which I havent a clue what they are for. However, I have enclosed a copy of a manual for the vibrating shuttle machine which, I am told, is very similar to the Transverse Shuttle machine. It does show some of the attachments. No needle (there is part of a needle enclosed) but I believe it will take a Singer12x1 needle or a 339 needle.
Condition: In good overall condition although, being a male, I have no idea how to use it. But it runs freely, the decals are not that worn , the machine has been cleaned, oiled and polished. The small screw in front which allows access to the bottom workings is a replacement and, please take note, there is NO box top for the machine
Dimensions: 49cm in length, 26.5 cm in width, 27 cm in height. The machine weight is about 10 kg.
