Fujifilm Finepix S9600 Review : Since some time, Fujifilm has two Megazoom cameras in its program. One, the FinePix S6500fd, has been produced to target the average consumer. The other, the Fujifilm FinePix S9600, has been intended for the more serious photographer and offers, for that reason, other possibilities than the FinePix S6500fd. The Fujifilm S9600 succeeds the FinePix S9500. There aren't many changes in regards to the previous model. The image quality has been improved, the Fujifilm FinePix S9600 Megazoom camera is equipped with a larger LCD monitor and an auto focus for faster focus under low light circumstances and there are improvements in the flash. The number of Megapixels remains the same.
Fujifilm S9600 - Real Photo Processor 2
The improved image quality is mainly due to the new processor. The Fujifilm FinePix S9600 is equipped with the Real Photo Processor II. Together with the Fujinon lens and the Super CCD HR V sensor, it forms the Real Photo Technology, as Fujifilm calls the trinity. The lens has been calculated in a way that the light falls on the image sensor perfectly. Fujifilm can do this, because it develops its own lenses. The light then falls on the sensor, which has a deviant pixel form. The Real Photo Processor, the heart of the Real Photo Technology, processes the final image. The image processor knows two cycles to reduce noise, as a result of which noise is eliminated at high sensitivities. In the processor the image is analyzed and, depending on the subject, the colour reproduction is determined.
Fujifilm Finepix S9600 - Super CCD HR sensor
While the Fujifilm FinePix S9500 was still upfront with the number of pixels, a year later nine Megapixels is no longer very extraordinary. The Fujifilm S9600 camera nevertheless keeps up beautifully with the competition. This doesn't mean that the number of pixels is most important. Much more interesting is to know how good the pixels are. A lot of pixels on a small image sensor mean a small photosensitive pixel surface, which leads to a lower dynamic range and potentially more image noise. The Super CCD HR sensor, however, is known for its high dynamic range through the use of two pixels, and with the Real Photo processor Fujifilm has already proven to keep noise under control, also with high sensitivities.
Fuji Finepix S9600 - Fujinon lens
The lens has a particular fine reach of 28 to 300 mm, if we compare it to 35mm cameras. You will manage to photograph nearly every subject with this zoom lens. Especially the wide angle is an addition in regards to its closest competitors. A compact wide angle is also more difficult to produce. The fact that the reach begins at 28mm therefore deserves a compliment. Unfortunately an optical image stabilization is missing, something which more and more competitors do offer. Just like with the S9500 the Fujifilm FinePix S9600 has a real zoom ring, which not only gives the camera a better appearance, but also works very pleasantly.
Fujifilm S9600 - Rotating LCD monitor
To make it possible to shoot under difficult angles, the Fujifilm FinePix S9600 digital camera
has been equipped with a rotating LCD monitor. That monitor has a dimension of 2-inch diagonally, which is pretty decent for a rotating monitor. Not only the physical dimension of the screen has increased, the resolution has also improved. The monitor now has 230,000 pixels, which expresses itself in a fine sharp reproduction.
Fujifilm intelligent flash system
Another important improvement can be found internally. Digital compact cameras often have problems with the focus in low light circumstances. Fujifilm has devised new algorithms as a result of which the speed, in regards to the predecessor, should have become no less than 40% faster. Also new is the intelligent flash system (called i-Flash), which has been built in the Fujifilm FinePix S9600. The FinePix S6500fd also has such a system and it ensures very balanced flash photography.
