German Voightlander Vag Folding Glass Plate Camera Iconic 120 Roll Film and 9x12cm Quarter Glass Plate Camera Circa 1931-1934 

THE VAG CAMERA WAS MANUFACTURED BY VOIGTLANDER & SOHNS IN GERMANY FROM 1925 TO APPROXIMATELY 1934. THE DOUBLE RAIL VAGS LIKE OUR CAMERA DATES FROM AFTER 1931.
 
IT IS A FOLDING CAMERA DESIGNED FOR QUARTER GLASS PLATES AND 120 FILM PACKS.
 
THE VAG WAS FITTED WITH VOIGTLANDER VOIGTAR ANASTIGMAT F3.5 LENS MOUNTED IN A EMBEZET SHUTTER.
 
THE CAMERA WAS CONSTRUCTED OF ALUMINUM ALLOY AND COVERED IN NEAT BLACK LEATHER, WITH THE METAL PARTS BLACK ENAMELED OR NICKEL PLATED.
 
IT FEATURED DOUBLE RAILS WHICH DATES CIRCA 1931-1934 AND BLACK LEATHER BELLOWS.
 
SITTING ON A SHELF THERE ARE FEW OTHER VINTAGE CAMERAS AS ATTRACTIVE TO LOOK AT.
 
It is a folding camera which means that it can fit in a large pocket. This was perfect for a world that was opening up to continental travel. People needed an easy to load roll shooter that they could carry with them and see the world.

CONDITION: GOOD VINTAGE CONDITION. FOLDS OPEN FREELY. CLOSES A BIT STIFFLY. HOOD HAS SOME MINOR DAMAGE. SHUTTER STILL WORKS BUT NEEDS ATTENTION. COMES WITH GLASS NEGATIVE CASSETTE HOLDER ATTACHED.

VOIGHTLANDER CAMERAS (1756-1965):
Founded in 1756 by Johann Christopb Voigtlander in Vienna who made scientific instrument. His son Johann continue the business. In 1840, grandson Wilhelm design the first lens with speed of f3.7 follow with first quality camera using this lens.
The company moved to Braunschweig in 1849. Since then camera production became major company business until 1960 when a German camera maker Zeiss Ikon began buying over the company. It took over the company completely by mid 1960's.

ZEISS (1846-present):
Carl Zeiss opened an optics workshop in Jena in 1846. By 1847 he was making microscopes full-time. In 1861 the rapidly growing company had a staff of about 20 and won a gold medal at the Thuringian Industrial Exposition. By 1866 Zeiss sold their 1,000th microscope. After World War II Leica ended up on the Western side of the Berlin Wall but Zeiss was captured and taken to Russia.  Yet Zeiss survived and they still produce some of the best lenses ever.
