Worry beads / komboloi with hematite gemstones and sterling silver chain from the Plaka (Greece)
Magnificent worry beads made of alternating light and dark brilliant polished hematite gemstones
The chain is 925 sterling silver
The worry beads have been in the owner’s possession for 16 years
They were purchased and originate from one of the many jewellery stores in the Plaka (Athens) (2002)
The Hematite Gemstones
The pictures fail to do justice to the Hematite gems
The gemstones are polished to high brilliance and shine
The lighter stones are almost silver in appearance
The darker stones are dark smoke grey nearing black and very striking
Hematite gems were popular in Victorian jewellery
Hematite is regarded a semi-precious gem when used for jewellery
Metaphysically, these stones are regarded to have significant properties such as grounding, repelling negative energy, uplifting, energising and generating a protective shield
The Silver Chain
Though somewhat faded through age, it is marked “925”
925 represents sterling silver
The silver chain passes through a sphere and a tassel-like number of chains produce at the bottom end through – all these are sterling silver
The worry beads are as stunning a piece of jewellery as they are a stress relieving aid
