Prof Pierre Volschenk (born 1926) was senior inspector of Art and then professor and head of the department of Fine Art at the University of Durban Westville. He retired in 1986 and lives and works in Gordons Bay. As a sculptor he was commissioned by the University of Stellenbosch to do the bronze of the legendary Dr Danie Craven with his dog Bliksem. He has done many portraits and bronzes of prominent people, some of the latest being portraits for Sanlam of the children of the late Prof Chris Barnard.Numerous works by the artist have been sold on auction at Stephan Welz in Johannesburg and Cape Town making this painting a good investment piece!
