G. H. Calpin set out to write a "straight" history of the Indians in South Africa from the days of their immigration, mainly as indentured sugar plantation labourers, up to the present day. Probably no man was better equipped to undertake the task: probably no man was less likely to write such a history and keep it "straight" in the sense of avoiding the intrusion of his own robust and analytical mind.

Here is a book, authoritative, documented and encyclopaedic in its cover of subject matter: withal it is a piece of living pungent expression on a problem which is intimately the concern of all South Africans.

second hand, good condition, minor foxing around the edges.
