Bavarian Commemorative medal for the Jubilee of the 14th Royal Bavarian Infantry Regiment "Hartmann" (1814-1914) - The medal was issued to the Veterans of the Regiment during the festivities that took place in Nuremberg in 1914, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary (1814 - 1914) since its initial formation.
The Regiment was formed in 1814 as 14th Royal Infantry Regiment of the Line. It participated in the Napoleonic Wars (1815), the German Civil War (1866) against Prussia, and in the Franco-Prussian War of 1870 - 1871.
In July1885 by decree of Prince Regent Luitpolt it was renamed to 14th Royal Infantry Regiment "Hartmann", after Lt. General Jakob Ritter von Hartmann - one of its former Commanding Officers.
During WW1 the Regiment fought on the Western Front. Among others it participated in the Battles of the Somme, Champagne, Flanders etc. The Regiment was demobilized in Nuremberg 14 December 1918. The total casualties of the Regiment during the 4 years of WW1 were 107 Officers, 384 NCOs and 2,991 Soldiers KIA. After the war, 2 companies of the 21th Bavarian Infantry Regiment took over the tradition.
