Jo Roos ( 13 May 1926 - 21 December 2010 ) was a world renowned South African sculptor and painter. He is especially famous for the busts he made of former heads of state, including President Nelson Mandela and Sam Nujoma . [1]
One of his masterpieces is the bronze panel with first world war scenes that appear in the SA War Museum in Delville Forest, France . He also held exhibitions in Germany and in the USA . Today, exhibitions and paintings are part of permanent exhibitions in Switzerland , England and Ireland . In Dublin , for example, there are "clay oxen" of bronze and a stainless steel rooster rhino.
Roos was honored by the ATKV during an exhibition in October 2010 in the Voortrekker Monument as an internationally renowned sculptor and painter in size. [2]
He died on 21 December 2010 at the age of 84 after a long illness.
