DESCRIPTION AND CONDITION
DESCRIPTION	An antique spelter bust of Kaiser Wilhelm II (1859 - 1941) produced at the time of his coronation in 1888. Mounted on a black wooden plinth and the complete item is 19 cm high. The widest section of the bust measures 10.5 cm. The bust has a lovely black patina. On the bust the Kaiser wears a fur over his military uniform and his main decoration (The Protector Cross of the Order of the Maltese Knights) can be seen where it partly shows above the top of the fur. A lovely and finely executed cast bust which probably came to South Africa at the time of the Boer War, since Wilhelm II was greatly admired by the Boers because of his strong stance against British Imperialism and his overt support of the Boers. I obtained this bust as part of a Boer War memorabilia collection many years ago - where it was kept because of Kaiser Wilhelm's association with Paul Kruger and the brave burghers of the ZAR. If unsure of anything please ask a question.
CONDITION	In very good undamaged and unworn condition.

NOTES
A lovely and scarce collectable bust of Wilhelm II, who was the Kaiser of Germany (1888 - 1918). This item is a beautiful finely cut item with an Association with pre WWII South Africa.

The bust has a base which has a diameter of 7.5 cm and can stand solidly on a shelf or desk or in a display cabinet.

A drawing of Kaiser Wilhelm II done at the time of his Coronation in 1888. His features are very similar to those on the bust which was probably modelled at about the same time. Note that this illustration does not make out part of the sale.

This image is included for interest sake. There is a metal bust of Kaiser Wilhelm II in the S A National Museum of Military History (shown above). I am not sure what size it is or what metal it is made from, but it is similar to the one for sale here. It shows Kaiser Wilhelm II as an older man, but appears to have been modelled by the same person.
