Blyvooruitzicht was regarded in the 1950s up to the 1980s as the Rolls-Royce of gold mines producing a high grade (gold percentage) of gold ore.
Ore is the most basic raw form of a mineral, which requires additional processing for the valuable minerals (gold) to be removed.
Blyvooruitzicht mine was regularly processing ore valued at 1 troy ounce of gold per ton of ore rock.
Although a single piece of gold ore generally has little actual gold content. Although a very rich ore may have some visible gold present, the vast majority do not actually have any visible gold present, and only crushing and processing of the ore will release the gold within to host material.
 
GOLD ORE: Gold within ores is small particles, which require advanced methods to extract. Extracting gold from this type of ore is feasible for multi-million dollar mining companies, but almost impossible for the average person to do.
 
CALCOPYRITE: Chalcopyrite is composed of Copper Iron Sulfide, an ore of Copper, and gets its coloring from oxidation of the crystals surface that often resembles gold and is often referred to as "Fool's Gold".
Chalcopyrite is a copper iron sulfide (CuFeS2) mineral with a brassy to golden yellow color. Chalcopyrite contains 34.5% Cu, 30.5% Fe, and 35.0% S. The mineral is the principal source of copper metal, and one of the major source of sulfur. THE MINERAL ALSO CONTAINS TRACES OF ELEMENTS OF GOLD AND NICKEL AND RECOVERED IN REFINERY.
