Mexico Mint: Spanish 8 Reales 1741: Reigersdaal Shipwreck, Sangs Certified
The Reigersdaal was an outward-bound Dutch East-Indiaman of 850 tons that was wrecked on 25 October 1747 near Springfontein Point (our West Coast).
She had a large hoard of silver specie on board which was in mint condition at the time the vessel was wrecked.
See pages 102, 112 and 113 of Malcolm Turners Shipwrecks and Salvage in South Africa.
We currently have two of these coins on auction. This is the second one.
