The Sam Browne belt is a leather belt with a supporting strap that passes over the right shoulder, worn by military and police officers. It was invented by General Sir Samuel J. Browne, a British Indian Army officer who lost his left arm during the Sepoy Rebellion. The belt helped him draw his sword with one hand.

The belt became popular among military officers and was adopted by various armies around the world, including the British, Finnish, and American armies. It was also used by the Nazi Party in Germany and by the Irish Republican Army during the Irish revolutionary period.

In the 20th century it was a mainstay in the British Army officer corps, being adopted service-wide in 1900 during the Second Boer War after limited use in India and later becoming popular with military forces throughout the Commonwealth.
