PINKISH RED 3,65CT COMPOSITE RUBY GEMSTONE SCRATCH GLASS! UV RED! HIGH THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY!

A PINKISH RED 3,65CT (0,73G SEE PHOTO PLEASE) COMPOSITE RUBY GEMSTONE WITH OVAL CUT. COMES WITH A SMALL PERSPEX PRESENTATION CASE.

THIS PARTICULAR STONE WAS BOUGHT FROM A SELLER IN THAILAND WITH THE COUNTRY OF ORIGEN OF THE RUBY INDICATED AS MADAGASCAR. IT HAS A SI1 (INCLUSIONS VISIBLE) CLARITY WHICH MEANS INCLUSIONS ARE NOTICABLE AND CAN BE SEEN WITH THE NAKED EYE.

IT WAS ALSO SOLD AS AN COMPOSITE LAB TREATED GEMSTONE WHICH MEANS THE COLOR AND CLARITY WAS ENHANCED BY FILLING A NATURAL RUBY FRACTURE WITH LEAD GLASS (This technique create a larger stone for a cheaper price). They are made by using a combination of lower-quality corundum, the mineral found in ruby, which is then infused with lead glass. The mixture is heated at high temperatures and then cooled, cut and polished. A composite ruby is made from multiple pieces of poor quality corundum (the mineral we call a ruby when it's red) bonded together with tinted lead glass. Sometimes there's more ruby than glass, sometimes there's more glass than ruby, says Christopher Smith at the American Gemological Laboratories in New York.

THE INTERESTING THING IS ALTHOUGH A COMPOSITE RUBY IT STILL PASSED THE FOLLOWING 3 TESTS:  IT SCRATCHED GLASS! IT FLUORESCES RED! (PLEASE SEE PHOTO) A HIGH THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY! (PLEASE SEE PHOTO). IT MIGHT BE INFUSED WITH SOME LEAD GLASS BUT THERE IS STILL SOME REAL RUBY INSIDE AS WELL!

THIS COMPOSITE RUBY GEMSTONE HAS A SUPPLIED GISA (GEMMOLOGY INSTITUTE OF SOUTHERN AFRICA) CERTIFICATE. THIS COMPANY DOES NOT HAVE A GOOD REPUTATION ONLINE. THEY COULD NOT BE CONTACTED BY CONTACT DETAILS SUPPLIED ON THE BACK. THERE IS NO WEBSITE TO CHECK PAST REPORTS THAT I COULD FIND. I DO NOT KNOW IF STILL IN EXISTENCE. TO THEIR CREDIT THOUGH I HAVE SEEN CERTIFICATES LIKE THIS ONE WHERE THEY ACCURATELY STATED THE PARTICULAR GEMSTONES PROPERTIES.

PASSED THE SCRATCH TEST: IT SCRATCHES GLASS EASILY IT IS HARDER THAN GLASS.
(MOHS HARDNESS GLASS 5.5-6.5 RUBIES 9.0)
PASSED THE ELECTRON UV LIGHT EMISSION TEST: GIVES A STRONG RED FLUORESCENCE UNDER UV LIGHT. NATURAL RUBIES USUALLY SHOW WEAK RED FLUORESCENCE. A SYNTHETIC RUBY USUALLY SHOWS A STRONG RED FLUORESCENCE.
(THE UV LIGHT HIT THE ELECTRONS. THEY JUMP AND FALL BACK. THEY RADIATE LIGHT OF A CERTAIN WAVELENGTH WHEN THEY DO WHICH IS SPECIFIC TO EACH ELEMENT IN THE MINERAL. THIS IS CALLED FLUORESCENCE. ONLY 10% OF GEMSTONES EXHIBIT A FLUORESCENCE AFFECT LIKE RUBIES, SAPPHIRE, TOPAZ, OPALS AND DIAMONDS. GLASS AND ALL NATURAL QUARTZ VARIETIES DOES NOT SHOW A UV AFFECT.)
PASSED THE THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY TEST: TESTED THE THERMAL CONDUCTIVITY WITH A MIZAR PRESTIGE SERIES 2 DIAMOND TESTER. IT MOVED UP THE LADDER FROM STANDARD LEVEL 3 TO LEVEL 6. FOR SAPPHIRES AND RUBIES A LEVEL OF 6 TO 7 IS THE NORM FOR THIS TESTER.
(WITH THIS TESTER GLASS AND QUARTZ MAKES NO MOVEMENT.)

SIZE: 10,01mm x 8,10mm x 5,60mm

DISCLAIMER: I AM NO GEMSTONE EXPERT. THESE GEMSTONES BELONGED TO A FAMILY MEMBER THAT HAS PASSED AWAY. HE COLLECTED GEMSTONES DURING THE EARLY TWENTY FIRST CENTURY MANY WERE BOUGHT ON EBAY AND OTHERS BY TRAVELLING TO OTHER COUNTRIES. I HAVE TRIED TO VERIFY AS FAR AS POSSIBLE ANY STATEMENTS OR CLAIMS BY DOING SOME THOROUGH RESEARCH AND SOME PRELIMINARY TESTS ON EACH GEMSTONE.

RUBIES:
Firstly Rubies is one of the four precious gemstones amongst Saphire, Diamond and Emerald. Real rubies rank 9 on the Mohs scale of Hardness. Only a diamond can scratch real rubies. Ruby is a red type of the corundum mineral, along with sapphire. Sapphires have each color of the corundum, except red, which is the color of the ruby.
Corundum is relatively common in nature, and is completely colourless. Chromium causes the red colour in rubies with Burma having the best most intense red rubies in the past.
Historically, production has been from Myanmar (Burma), Thailand, India and Sri Lanka (Ceylon). Rubies are known as the King of Gemstones and Myanmar and Thailand honor the corundum ruby as their national stone. More recent important sources include East African countries of Madagascar, Tanzania and Mozambique.
Corundum was the first gem mineral to be synthesized in the lab by a process known today as flame fusion and flux growth. Synthetic rubies and sapphires are presently manufactured in enormous quantities for both industrial and gem application. This caused widespread apprehension and greatly diminished ruby sales and a resulting fall in prices.
The color and clarity of rubies and sapphires is commonly enhanced by heat treatment and, less frequently, by irradiation. Although not commonly disclosed by retailers, such processes are widely acknowledged within the industry and are probably today the rule rather than the exception.
