This rare, historical, antique, South African 'Boer War' period wooden tobacco pipe, has an unusual, hinged chamber and numerous hand engravings, including battle names, places, flags, dates and a badge along with the owners name 'E. Dowse', who served with the 'Durban Light Infantry' (D.L.I.). The other engravings read: 'BOER WAR, 1899-1900, ELANDSLAAGTE, MOOI RIVER, COLENSO, FRERE, WILLOW GRANGE, ESTCOURT, DUNDEE, NOTTINGHAM ROAD' and an engraving of the D.L.I. cap badge with a pair of crossed flags. It measures 13,5cm x 5cm x 3,3cm and other than a chip to the mouthpiece, it's in great condition.
