A VERY RARELY SEEN ITEM. A DURAN 50 SCHOTT MAINZ JENA 10L EVAPORATOR GLASS MADE IN GERMANY. THE GLASS IS VERY LARGE (63CM HIGH 24CMDIAMETER) WITH WOODEN STAND AND RUBBER EVAPORATOR STOPPER.
TO BE USED IN EVAPORATING CHEMICAL EXPERIMENTS OR CREATE YOUR OWN MINIATURE GARDEN (TERRARIUM) INSIDE YOUR HOME.
The DURAN GROUP is one of the worlds leading manufacturers of borosilicate glass. This is a special type of glass that was invented by Otto Schott in 1887, and registered in 1938 under the trade name DURAN®. With sites at Mainz and Wertheim in Germany they dispatch all over the world.
Jena glass (German: Jenaer Glas) is a shock- and heat-resistant glass used in scientific and technological applications, especially in chemistry. It was a predecessor to other borosilicate glasses which came into wide use in the twentieth century, such as Pyrex.
SIZE OF GLASS AND EVAPORATION: In life, as in laboratory equipment, size matters. Generally, the larger the evaporating flask, the greater the evaporation rate. This is because a larger flask allows for an increased velocity at the perimeter of the flask. With higher speed, the solvent inside the flask becomes more agitated and the active surface area of the solvent is enlarged. This all results in a higher evaporation output. Larger glass wall surfaces also allow for better heat energy transfers from the heating bath, through the evaporation flask to the solvent.
