Until Ratchet can work out a way to escape, he is forced to fight in an array of battles and elaborate games of death. With all eyes on him, Ratchet becomes an unlikely TV superstar as the universe tunes in to watch him fight. Ratchet needs all the weapons he can get to keep the audience happy and stay alive as the action takes place in a series of spectacular inter-planetary arenas. A new look Ratchet and a great new story come complete with new game options, non-linear levels delivering real freedom around the game, more playable vehicles, more things to blow up and many more customisable weapons. And, for the first time in the series Ratchet: Deadlocked features fully co-operative gameplay allowing a second player to seamlessly join in the arena-sport action at any time, in addition to a massive variety of multiplayer modes.
In a nutshell:
If you enjoyed the multiplayer mode in Ratchet & Clank 3 then this is going to be right up your star system. Its basically Annihilation Nation expanded to make a full game with a proper story mode and both split screen and online multiplayer. It's in the latter mode that Ratchet & Clank really shines.
The lowdown:
Finally shedding any pretence of being a platformer this new game has more in common with Unreal Tournament 2004 than it does Super Mario. Ratchet (Clank really isnt in it much) has been press ganged into an ultra violent game show where he has to destroy everything in his path in order to pull in the ratings. To help him, hes got a huge range of customisable weapons and a small pool of vehicles. The single player is perfectly fun on its own but the real draw is the co-operative mode and the online multiplayer with its myriad of different modes and options.
Most exciting moment:
Sitting atop a spider tank and commanding your army of bots to annihilate your best friend online.
Since you ask:
This is actually the fourth Ratchet & Clank game from developer Insomniac Games, who also did the three Spyro the Dragon games for the PSone. .
The bottom line:
Not a ¬タワproper¬タン Ratchet & Clank but still a great multiplayer game.
