Bright and colourful model of the Renault Alpine which won Le Mans in 1978 after an epic battle with the Porsche 936s. Driven by Jaussaud and Pironi - two stars of French motor racing.
This car unusually featured a semi-closed cockpit for improved straight line speed but an idea that was not repeated despite this success. Sportscars went either open or fully closed. The enclosed bubble cockpit was tough on the drivers - both visibility and claustrophobia - and Pironi was so exhausted at the end that he didn't go up to the podium to collect the trophy!
It had rudimentary ground effects as the underside had brush skirts and simple underside tunnels.
A rare and tricky to find model which will add interest and colour to any collection.
In mint condition and supplied in a clear display cabinet and not the original cardboard box.
Imported and from my private collection.
