Celebrating 70 years since the birth of the Formula 1 World Champion and motor racing legend James Hunt, Omologato have launched The Official James Hunt Chronograph - a limited edition watch of just 750 of each design dedicated to telling the story of a sporting legend
Born in 1947, James grew to be a standout driver in a golden generation of racers. His 1976 World Championship winning season was immortalised in the 2013 film Rush. Living a playboy lifestyle whilst going head-to-head with one of the world's most-revered drivers Niki Lauda, James was renowned for delivering plenty of off-track entertainment and close wheel-to-wheel action throughout his career. The racing between Lauda and Hunt is one of the most iconic racing rivalries in sporting history.
A special feature film with James’s son, and racing driver, Freddie Hunt has been released in conjunction with the launch of The Official James Hunt Chronograph. Alongside talking about his father's influence on his life and the design process of creating such an iconic timepiece, Freddie said that watch is “like having a little bit of James Hunt with you.” The Hunt family were heavily involved with the design of the Omologato watch throughout and were instrumental in the watch design.
A tribute to a legend, The Official James Hunt Chronograph is available with either a leather strap or a nylon/leather bonded bracelet, both models feature a matt black dial, James Hunts’ signature and the iconic red, blue and yellow stripes emblazoned across the face - the very same colours that appeared on James’ race helmet, a nod to Wellington College, where James was educated.
The exclusive collaboration with the Estate of James Hunt signals a statement of intent from Omologato, who are dedicated to delivering timepieces globally that give enthusiasts the opportunity to feel a part of motorsport's success stories.
