Very rare Rhodesian BSAP cammo jacket and matching pants.
This type of cammo is not often seen as the use of this pattern was only used for a limited time in the late 60's to mid 70's and phased out as the bush war intensified. The pattern and colours are quite different to the later and more common "brush stroke" camo that replaced this style of cammo, with a distinctive 4 fingered hand shape being evident, especially in the pattern on the back of the jacket.
2 of pics included in the description, compare this jacket and pants to the later brush stroke pattern and are included for comparison purpose only..... THE BRUSH STROKE JACKET AND PANTS PICTURED ALONSIDE THE BSAP UNIFORM ARE NOT INCLUDED IN THIS AUTION LOT.
This jacket still has a label attached that is very faint and faded, but has the date 1969, still visible.
An unusual feature is that non of the pockets or arm cuffs have any buttons, instead, velcro strips are used. These velcro strips must have come from the manufacturer as there are no button holes indicating that buttons were never attached. There are also 3 small ventilation holes in the arm pits.
Even more intriguing is that there are SADF Warrant Officer rank badges sewn onto the arms. This particular style of WO rank badges were in use by the South African Defense Force up to April 1974, which together with the 1969 jacket label, dates the period of use, of this uniform, sometime between 1969 and 1974. While the true history of this jacket and pants will never be know, it is possible that this uniform was issued to a member of the SADF sent up to assist the Rhodesian forces and never returned to the stores on completion of the secondment and brough back as a reminder of service.
The size of the jacket is shown on the lable as "medium", but this jacket is quite large with the width across the chest from armpit to armpit being 570mm and across the shoulders, 620mm. Arm length from armpit to cuff is 500mm and the length of the jacket from the collar to the bottom edge of the jacket being 735mm.
The pants have a waist circumference of 820mm and the length measured along the inner leg is 746mm.
The pants are a bit more worn than the jacket and have 2 small tears in 1 of the legs, that are repairable.
Please view the pics carefully to confirm condition as this is the exact jacket and pants (excluding the brush stroke jacket and pants) that the winner will receive. Ask if there are any questions.
