A SOUTH AFRICAN AIR FORCE GYMNASIUM BADGE WITH THEIR MOTTO E GYMNASIO VIRTUS MEANING THE GYMNASIUM BRINGS FORTH VIRTUE. A SOUTH AFRICAN SIGNAL CORPS BADGE WITH MOTTO CERTA CITO OR SWIFT AND SURE DATING FROM THE 1950S POSSIBLY EARLIER. AND MORE.
 
THESE BADGES ON AUCTION THIS WEEK BELONGED TO ONE OF MY UNCLES WHO SERVED IN THE SA AIRFORCE AND LATER ON BECAME A BOEING PILOT. I AM NOT SURE HOW HE OBTAINED THE  GARDEN CITY NEW YORK USA POLICE AND FIRE DEPARTMENT BADGES.
 
The Air Force Gymnasium was founded on 1 December 1951 at AFS Lyttleton, with the first intake of 133 recruits on 3 February 1952. In January 1959 the Air Force Gymnasium moved to Valhalla, opposite AFB Swartkop. Due to the sinkhole activity at Valhalla, Military Skills Development (MSD) and Reserve Force recruits moved to AFB Hoedspruit on 11 January 2009, to commence with their training at the Boston Training Facility.
 
GARDEN CITY IS A VILLAGE LOCATED IN NASSAU COUNTY, ON LONG ISLAND, IN NEW YORK UNITED STATES. THE POPULATION WAS 23,272 AT THE TIME OF THE 2020 CENSUS.

SAAF:
The South African Air Force (SAAF) is the air warfare branch of the South African National Defence Force. The South African Air Force was established on 1 February 1920. The Air Force saw service in World War II and the Korean War. From 1966, the SAAF was involved in providing infantry support in the low-intensity Border War in Angola, South-West Africa and Rhodesia. As the war progressed, the intensity of air operations increased, until in the late 1980s when the SAAF were compelled to fly fighter missions against Angolan aircraft in order to maintain tactical air superiority. On conclusion of the Border War in 1990, aircraft numbers were severely reduced due to economic pressures as well as the cessation of hostilities with neighbouring states.
