Scarce Antique 'Kondo Tribe' Short Sword (Ikakalaka)
This scarce, antique, short sword or 'Ikakalaka' fighting sword, from the late 1800's/early 1900's, is from the Congo (DRC) in central Africa. It has an unusual, hand forged, double-edged straight iron blade, flaring out at the end to a double-edged half-moon shaped tip with a blackened, hourglass shaped wooden handle. The blade has light surface pitting with nicks on the tip, and chips with wear to the handle, otherwise a good example of this scarce piece. The sword measures 50cm in length, the blade measures 40,5cm, with a width going from 5cm to 19cm at the tip and a weight of 450g.
