The dish is in very good condition with no dents and minor surface scratches

Very heavy gauge silver - much heavier than the usual silver dish of this size.
Please note that all marks are reflections.

This version of the coin was first minted in 1977 and the engraver was  Tommy Sasseen
The obverse has the coat of arms and the reverse the Springbok, which was in use from 1977 to 1989.
It is of interest that there are two versions of the Springbok, one with narrow ears (Die A), and one with wide ears (Die B)
This example of the coin has narrow ears.

The base has an engraved date 3.3.1978
