Born mute, speaking only in sign, Edgar Sawtelle leads an idyllic life with his parents on their farm in remote northern Wisconsin. But his life is plunged into chaos as his uncle returns, his father suddenly dies, and he is forced to flee into the wilderness with only three yearling dogs for company. Edgar comes of age in the wild, fighting for his survival and that of the three dogs who follow him. But his need to face his father's murderer and his devotion to the Sawtelle dogs turn Edgar ever homeward.

First published 2008 by Fourth Estate, London. Condition: Fair to good. Page edges and softcover has some wear and tear.
