History. 

Henry McCoy was a genius. As one of Apocalypse's leading scientists, he worked on expanding genetic mutation alongside his mentor, Nathan Essex, the man known as Sinister. McCoy created the process for building the gene-spliced Infinite army used by Apocalypse during the Age of Apocalypse. He performed gruesome experiments on mutants deemed unfit by Apocalypse, aiming to create an unbeatable army of enhanced mutants for his master.

In his pursuit of perfection, McCoy conducted experiments on himself, turning into the Dark Beast. With Sinister's mutiny, McCoy's experiments grew more radical without oversight. During the fall of Apocalypse's rule, Jean Grey and Prelate Scott Summers freed many mutants from McCoy's Breeding Pens, leading to a rebellion. The Dark Beast, anticipating revenge, went into hiding and was found by the X-Men in Apocalypse's stronghold. He teleported into the M'Kraan Crystal, taking his chances in its many realities.

The Dark Beast traveled back in time to the main Marvel Universe's reality. A young Emma Frost discovered him, and together they briefly collaborated. He is believed to have created the Morlocks and Gene Nation. At one point, he kidnapped the good Hank McCoy from the X-Men, but the good Beast escaped. Recently, the Dark Beast resurfaced in Genosha, joining Charles Xavier's efforts to rebuild the nation.
