ALLERTONS (1833-1942): Charles Allerton started manufacturing in 1833, in partnership as Allerton, Brough & Green. When this partnership ended in 1859 Allerton continued with his sons as Charles Allerton & Sons. Charles Allerton died around June 1863. His four sons: William Allerton, John Bill Allerton, Charles Bradbury Allerton & Frederick James Allerton, continued the company under the original name. By August 1887, only William & Charles Bradbury Allerton remained in the business. Charles Bradbury retired in August 1887. By 1905 it was recorded that the present proprietors are grandsons of the late Mr. Charles Allerton. The company was taken over in 1912 by Cauldon Ltd (later Cauldon Potteries Ltd). In 1932 Allertons were taken over by George Jones & Sons Ltd after Cauldon Potteries entered receivership. Production of Allertons ware was moved to the George Jones & Sons Cresent Works in Stoke. Production of ware with the Allerton name ceased during the Second World War.
