Victorian Silver-Plated Cream Jug & Sugar Bowl
This lovely, very good quality, matching, Victorian, silver-plated cream jug and sugar bowl set from the late 1800's were made in Sheffield, England by silversmiths 'James Dixon & Sons' (JD&S). They have oval bodies with a ribbed or fluted design around the lower half and a beautifully chased and engraved decoration along the top. On each side there's a small cartouche, one is engraved with a monogram and the other with the date '1898'. The pair have a wonderful shape and a super weight and feel to them, and other than age related wear to the interiors, they're in excellent condition. They're impressed on their bases 'JD&S' with the bugle trademark, and 'EPBM' for 'Electroplated Britannia Metal' with the design number '4186'. The cream jug stands 9cm high, the sugar bowl stands 10,2cm high and together they weigh 490g.
