PENN: PENN Fishing, founded by Otto Henze in 1932, began as a small fishing reel company in Philadelphia, eventually becoming a major player in the industry, known for its durable and high-quality reels. Otto Henze, a machinist from Germany, immigrated to the United States and started working for the Ocean City Reels Company in Philadelphia in 1922. In 1932 Henze, with a dream of building world-record-setting fishing reels, established his own company, PENN Fishing Tackle Manufacturing Company, in a rented third-floor loft at 492 North Third Street in Philadelphia. By the end of the 1950s, Penn reels came in 77 different models, and world record catches were increasingly being made on its tackle.
