An EXCELLENT example of World War I , Patt. 1907 Bayonet Trench Knife Conversion. This piece appears to be in a VF/F state , with Blade remaining intact with handle. All proof marks present on reverse. Evidence of handling/ age-related wear is visible on surface. Royal Cypher & Manufacturer markings have been removed by means of grinding. The mortise has been reduced to a simple pommel and the blade shortened to a Drop-point design. Original grip-scales have been removed and altered as per requirements.
This piece represents a unique example of a Great War , Trench Knife Conversion from a issued Bayonet. It is likely that this piece may have been utilised by German Imperial Forces, as a captured item ( removal of the British Royal Cypher).
